Osmosis The general theme proposed by the organizers of EXPO 2012 Yeosu Korea "The Living Ocean and Coast: Diversity of Resources and Sustainable Activities" subthemes "Coastal Development and Preservation", "New Resource Technology", "Creative Maritime Activities" focuses on the recognition of true values of the ocean and coastline as common property of humanity and the need to promote sustainable development and environmental protection. The theme proposed by the contracting authority "Presentation Delta, the Danube River and / or the Black Sea coastal zone" is considering as faithful transposition of the sized unique accomplishments and realities of our society in its historical and cultural evolution, but also Romania’s natural and humangreat potential. Our response to these generous and temptingissues, took shape in a normal and natural way for the Osmosis concept that underlies the overall development of the Romanian Pavilion at EXPO 2012 Yeosu Korea. For Romania the most representative in terms of osmotic nature is the Danube Delta, where it is developing two types of osmotic relations: _the first relationship that describes all border areas, coastal and offshore, is represented by three elementsosmotic: water, earth and air. An“osmotictriangle". _the second osmotic relationship developed in the Delta and that is unique for Romania is represented by the freshwater-saltwater osmosis. The osmotic principles of the Danube Delta is expressed formally in the construction of the architectural concept, both overall, as well as in detail. _the access level, that you can call a generic 'ground floor' communicates with the mezzanine through an element that overlaps natural universe (expressed in ground) with the human world (expressed in the mezzanine). Moreover, the mezzanine is open on all sides to the rest of the exhibition space at the ground smoothing thus any type of communication. All surfaces dividers (walls) are treated in a language that accesses the concept of osmosis: the surfaces have organic forms which are 'sliced', breathe and communicate. _the decorative ceiling is made of a subtle combination of materials that support the concept of osmosis: a 'slicedsurface'seen as a natural languagefor the walls, and a reflexive surface that reflects the whole construction of the pavilion, including the visitors. _the exhibition space situated at the ground floor communicates integrally with the mezzanine. _ the groundfloor - communicates the Danube’s osmotic biodiversity generatedby three compartments (water, earth, air) in a flow that starts and ends the presentation Danube Black Sea where the river flows through the delta. _ the mezzanine – communicates the Danube’sethnic diversity generated by the osmosisof three majority ethnic groups (Romanians, Lipovan, Ukrainians), in various forms (exhibits, video, interactive formats) into a multifunctional space (for events and / or exhibits) The space allocated for the Romanian Pavilion is situated on the first floor of the buildings that will house all of EXPO 2012 Yeosu Korea, in the Atlantic meant. It is a corner flag has two sides towards the general traffic ofthe visitors, a common side with two pavilions and a common side with stairway and toilets. Allocated area is about 414 square meters and has a height of 7.20 m The architectural concept logic causesafluent flow and an easy accessibility to various areas and functions. The visitor’s access in the pavilionis controlled, on the short side close to the lighthouse. The route in the pavilion has a terminal point located on the long side of the pavilion. Also, on the long side of the pavilionthere is provided an evacuation in case of fire, which can be used mainly as access by the staff of the pavilion. The access to the fast food restaurant is separated from the exhibition spaceaccess, directly from the general visitor’s traffic, on both sides. The access 'gates' / exit from the exhibition and fast-food restaurant, except for evacuation in case of fire, are planned to be shut out visiting hours, with removable panels of wood blades, integrating the general concept the pavilion. The escape door in case of fire has double opening glass The pavilion’sfloor in the exhibition space, is a technical floor with a maximum height of 15 cm, finished with a PVC mat for heavy traffic in dark blue, suggesting the element 'water'. In the fast-food restaurantthere is the wood floor finish in natural color that is the same with the decorative walls. For the mezzanine designed for the visitors as well as the staff we provided avinyl flooring carpet for heavy traffic. The walls are designed to convey the osmotic message and also to be an expressive support for all areas of communication. Their 'sliced' appearance is made out of wood items (it can also be made out of painted polyurethane) and creates a permanent state of communication beyond and inside the walls. They are like natural boundaries, specific for the Danube, which are permissive, osmotic, which smoothers the communication. The same language is used forthe central mezzanine railing, retaining and emphasizing furthermore theosmotic communication. One of the key elements of the flag is the symbol of the element earth, a tree of life whose roots are found in the ground, at the ground level, and continue to communicate also at the mezzanine-floor passing through it and continuing to the ' pavilion’s'sky, decorative ceiling. As an architectural language this element is designed with a combination ofof wood 'slices', that are drawn into the general line of the ground floor, and a continuous glossymaterial , with a high degree of reflexivity, which continues and covers the ceiling ,offering shelter to the 'whole pavilion. The technical solution for this finish consists in using a very lightand darkstretched membrane, with a high degree of reflection and a certain subtlety and, that through using intelligent lighting will create a 'mirror' for the entire mezzanine , inviting visitors to discover it. Thus creating a tempting a solution for the visitor, helping him to understand the space and the generous message of the Romanian pavilion. The reflective ceiling zone extendswith some 'sliced'rolls, emphasizing a natural continuity of the decorative walls. In the center of the ground floor exhibition space a communication groupis located both at the architectural and symbolistlevel of expression that centers the osmotic nature of the Danube Delta. This is basically a formal transposition ofthe ‘osmotic triangle' formed by the three items: water-land-air. Each of these elements has a formal vehicle: _ Water is represented by an aquarium with fish, a natural element placed in a well-known form that shows the water’s direct message; _ Land is represented by a decorative element located at the boundary between tangible and suggestible, a scenography element, whose roots grow deep in the earth element, namely a tree of life, thatarticulates the spaces; _ The subtle air is symbolized by a large transparentball , which seems suspended in the air and in which there are several speakers with various natural instrumental sounds with , the different hues and intensities, as a direct expression of sound transmission through the air. This 'osmotic triangle' is a unique and challenging experience. The pavilion’s elevation emphasizes the same principle of osmosis. The pavilion is practically open to the viewer and visitor, by alternating open, and filled and'sliced'areas, which invites you to discover the story inside the center. The access area of the pavilion is marked by the start point of the journey, the Lighthouse. The specificity of this element is an introduction to our whole approach, an introduction to the content that is be discovered by the visitor. The osmotic space of the Romanian Pavilion at EXPO 2012 Yeosu Korea represents a general concept both at the level of representation and communication. The architectural concept is attractive , tempting and understandable for the visitor,is simply memorable.
