The Studio is located near the Praça da República and the Monastery Of São Gonçalo, in Amarante, Portugal, on a plot of land between the Tâmega River and the Rua 5 de Outubro. Owing to the antiquity of the building, this intervention has throuhout preserved its basic features out of due respect for its venerability. Respect for the built heritage is the basis of project design. Nevertheless, adapting these areas to current standards does not preclude the use of a contemporary inflection applied to what is historic. The renovations carried out are therefore those suitable for the original building. Materials and ideas were chosen that would conjugate the contemporary with the traditional , thereby resolving problems of restoration and reconstruction.
