Walking Boulevard | Hugo Meireles

Our main objective is to propose an intervention that helps the revitalization of the surrounding urban fabric, implementing a concrete identity of the proposal that has the possibility of adaptation and evolution, expanding its objectives to respond to the needs it presents itself. A cultural city integrated in the dynamic of the city trying to convey the reference to a Portuguese quality of being not only in the urban details but as morphology of space and how it´s lived. It focus on creating complex relations, responding to an economic, social and cultural level. The project need to be the simplest as possible but had to assure the certain amount of flexibility as the urban dynamics evolve, while the principles are strong enough to maintain its validity for the future. Such intentions are manifested in a central avenue, a walking boulevard that intercepts the geometry of the urban block creating relations with secondary streets as interior spaces with a more communitarian feel. The urban space uses different pavements and designs to relate different appropriations of the urban space, serving as indicators of events in the urban organization, either by indication of esplanades or by characterizing public transportation stops
