The 2008 restoration of “Stillman II,” a private villa designed by Modernist master Marcel Breuer in 1966 demonstrates the style and versatility of modern Italian furnishings. While the exterior restoration sought to capture the original modern aesthetic of the iconic house, casegoods by Porro and upholstered furniture by Living Divani were specified to create delightful contrast with its natural-looking stucco walls, cleft-finished stone, and generous glass window panels. Here, Casa Design takes you step-by-step throughout the house to discover how these modern Italian furnishings figured in the design: In the dining room, the sleek, black lacquered P. 04 dining table by Piero Lissoni for Porro adds scale and proportion to the purely modern kitchen along with signature Spindle chairs made with reduced-section stainless steel and black lacquered seats and backs. Living Room The upholstered sectional by Living Divani coupled with a navy blue fringed area rug softens the stark space while maintaining the clean lines typical of modern interiors. The Porro dining table and chairs, still visible, blend kitchen and living space seamlessly. The fun and functional perforated Truffle chair designed by Jean Marie Massaud for Porro enlivens the nature-inspired sleeping space, while the Living Divani upholstered bed frame again provides the plush comfort and low-slung elegance that works well with the glamorous and multipurpose black lacquered Truffle chair, equally suited to indoor and outdoor environments.
