The geographical location of this park has become a landmark for Madrid. As the urban sprawl spills over onto the surroundings plains, the city needs breathing spaces to relieve congestion, areas where citizens can find leisure and enjoy nature. The river Manzanares is ideal for this purpose and its riverbank has been turned into a large metropolitan park. The restructuring project takes in an area of 7 km by 600 metres (500 hectares in all) and includes channelling the river and landscaping the whole riverside. Client: Madrid Council Gross area: 600 ha
