Partial renovation work eventually resulted in the complete renovation of this original barn, which had been sensitively converted in the 1970s into a holiday home. Our initial survey of the house resulted in two very valuable findings which guided us through the whole process from design to setting our goals. The first was that the house owners have a great outlook, a sense for aesthetics and understanding of modern technology, which was seen in the original state of the house. The second was that the house needed to be reshuffled in order to have immediate contact with the garden and extract the maximum from the height difference of the terrain and ceilings. This was when we remembered Adolf Loos’s ‘Raumplan’ ….
