EG-2 Chair | Enrique Greenwell
Flexible wood that reacts to shapes and weight. Turin / Italy / 2006

Design Concept
The concept revolved around creating a wooden chair that would be comfortable and could adapt to the particular shape of the user, instead of the other way around. In order to achieve this thin strips of laminated wood are proposed so they can bend when weight is applied, therefore conforming to the person. Different lengths were used following the logic that longer strips can bend easier and shorter ones present more resistance. This led to the solution of positioning the shorter ones in the area of the lower back, buttocks and the back of the thighs for added support. The frame is composed of two strips of laminated wood attached together by means of wooden pegs that also tie the seat panels, enabling movement of the latter. The legs are laminated wood and are spread out toward the outside to achieve balance and give the chair its trademark “low riding” characteristic. No nails nor screws are used in the assembly.
