Design Concept The design considered the various buildings and their interrelationship and scale, separating them by function but bringing them together by a common connector spine, facilitating interconnectivity and utilizing architecture and landscaping as means to create views, generating an easy-to-follow intuitive way finding system. Inspired by the Chinese silk ribbon dancers, the bed towers are see-through glass waves, maximizing natural lighting and emulating silk ribbons fluttering in the wind; this visual balance recognizes each of the architecture functions, the solid base as the provider of care and protection, the towers emulating the freedom that health provides. Building orientation responds to solar exposure and prevailing winds and adapts to various entry points, natural vegetation grows throughout the building, keeping patients in contact with natural ventilation and air. The conjunction of all these elements finds the sought-after balance and beauty that this centuries-old nation has held dear in its traditions and history.
