This project, a new wing at Unisa’s Parow campus, is being designed within the strict principles of sustainable '>http://architecture.The'> building is set out in a linear East West orientation maximising on the available insolation .It has a hard and simple elevation to the railwayline and to the North the building opens up with floor to ceiling fully shaded glazing. Particular attention is being given to natural ventilation and lighting. ‘Light scoops’ reflect light into the south-facing classroom below while wind chimneys increase the natural cross ventilation. Great care has been taken to source all the materials locally and capture and reutilise all the rainwater and grey water generated by the '>http://building.This'> project will significantly improve the overall appearance and enjoyment of the Parow Campus and have a positive impact on the educational potential of it's students.
