The Montello lies in the Treviso Piedmont and is highly appreciated for its beautiful landscape, characterized by the fusion of rural -wood conserved territory with real estate architecture. It shall not come as a surprise that the young couple has decided to build its residence right in this area. It’s a 1.5-Acre lot that sees a number of interconnected elements, such as the existing home, built in the early seventies, the presence of woods, and the Villa “Pisani” pineta. The couple’s idea is to live in a modern house, fully opened to the outdoors, without demolishing the old one, which has a unique flavour and setting. The designers thus had to face the challenge of re-inventing the existing structure in a modern and up to date mansion. They developed the idea of a new building, going through two different phases. The first would be a soft-stripping process, in order to remove some inadequate elements, followed by a soft-dressing one, aimed to give to the structure a new expressive force. The natural landscape surrounding the house has played a crucial role in the design, becoming itself a whole with the structure. Wide glass windows, scenic views and suspended large balconies closely interact with the natural elements (rain, sun, snow) The interior layout naturally comes as the result of an attentive sharing process with the client. All the spaces are dynamically related to each other and perfectly blend in a domestic living space built and designed on the family’s specific needs. The spaces’ hierarchic translates into a, defined by volumes, modelling of the building. The whole design process has been a mathematic sequence of add and deduct of single elements. The Garage, the laundry room, and more in general, any service volume have been separated by the actual living areas. We intervened in the main building area, separating the living spaces from the outdoor volumes, like the veranda on ground floor, the balconies in the upper level. On the second floor, the children’s and the parent’s area are connected by an invisible volume that functions as main natural light entry point, right in the building’s centre.
