BOUTIQUE ROBERTO FANELLA LATINA I find working on the lay-out of internal spaces in already existing buildings very stimulating. The previous conditioning, sometimes very rigid, acts as a catalyst for the search for unthinkable solutions in conditions which have fewer limits than in things created “ ex novo”. The photographs which follow refer to a space laid out to house an outlet for clothes inside one of the founding structures near Piazza San Marco in Latina. As far as I could, I managed to restore the original layout of the walls, eliminating the successive partitions and the large ceilinged areas which had been put in for previous commercial uses. Then, with a thin irony, implicit in a project which celebrates the rites of fashion, I wove these rugged and evocative features using materials like sand blasted and varnished wood for the flooring, laminate for the check out and for the scotching, bronze for the mannequins. The lighting is by means of old street lamps hung from the ceiling by a couple of staid cables which evoke an outside rather than an inside atmosphere. I built the bronze structure for the mannequins, which was then racked by an oxyhydrogen flame and which interpret, in a sort of way, the bodies of three famous models, both symbols and victims of a rite, which is both blinding and fascinating, but with cruel implications: fashion. I then made some structures, still in bronze, to be scattered here and there in the shop, almost like old masks, found objects, both surprising and poetic, which accompany the steps of the customers inside the shop.
