The “Sky-Skan Dome” provided the scientists attending the International Planetarium Society (IPS) in July of 2012 with a never before seen 360° experience for all senses. At the largest planetarium conference in the world in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, they embarked on a sensationally high quality trip into the universe. This was made possible by the three components Projection, 3D Audio and Mobile Space. The geodesic cupola with its 14 meters in diameter offered space for the Immersive Media Screen and thus created 225 m² of negative pressure projection screen with near to no reflection. Black theatre cloth was used as a curtain to hide the technical gadgets at the outer rim of the cupola, which also provided some acoustic dampening. Attached to the profile of the vacuum ring, there was a specially developed socket for the “Cove Light” LED, which provided diffuse background lighting during the breaks. Additional effect: the conference visitors (who left the dome only reluctantly) were directed to the exits by means of lighting effects. The vacuum pump technology provided 0,3 mbar for the nearly reflexion free membrane. The projection system by the market leader Sky-Skan illuminated the Immersive Media Screen with specially spherically corrected lenses and a resolution of 4K (12 million pixels). Inside the capsuled ZENDOME vacuum system there was absolute silence – the ideal Space for the 360° Audio System by IOSONO. This filled the ZENDOME with spectacular 3D sound and provided the goose bump effect. This unique combination of know-how set new standards for the presentation of 360° content – and all within a construction time of only two days. History of negative pressure screen in geodesic domes by ZENDOME: 2007 ‚Vom Funken zum Pixel' at Martin-Gropius-Bau 2009 Premiere of first negative pressure screen called Immersive Media Screen" in October 2009 at the Grand Palais in Paris as part of the exhibition "Byzantium to Istanbul, one port for two continents" 2011 Extreme mobility through easy construction and deconstruction, the ZENDOME.immersive media screen has moved on to Istanbul. 2012 Floriade 2012 - unique event held only once in a decade - with its perfect projection surface for a breathtaking 360°-event on a unique noise free Immersive Media Screen. 2012 Resounding success for the premier of the ZENDOME.immersive media screen (IMS) in July of 2012 in the US
