We were asked to remodel a farmhouse for holidays and week-ends use, to take advantage of the beautiful river view and the existing gardens, with a minimum capacity of four double bedrooms, good living areas and a generous kitchen. Our proposal takes the most from the proximity to the Douro river: on the lower terraces of the property we propose a free-flow swimming pool that blends into the landscape and makes a visual continuity with the river view; in the main floor of the house, the common areas - living room and kitchen - are also facing west to enjoy the magnificent view. A metal structured balcony, lightweight and detached from the house's body, extends the living spaces towards the exterior. The access to all rooms and spaces of the house are made by means of a corridor in the core of the house surrounding an inner courtyard, with a more private garden. On the ground floor, we located other living room spaces and some technical areas. The separation in two different floors of the living spaces allows the experience of a simultaneous usage without conflicts of people of different ages and different rhythms of life in the same house.
