Barrandov terraces used to be a social life center until the second world war. The original building was designed by Max Urban. It is a listed functionalist building. The building used to be a briliant restaurant and a club for cream of society. The restaurant was viseted primarily by film actors from the nearby film studios. With its magnificent views of the city and the sunny terraces it was one of the nicest places in the Prague. But after the second world war the place fall in oblivion. Since then the building and the terraces are empty. Now the building is in the poor condition. There are several projects on its use. The Idea of this project is to bring the terraces back to the life. It means to give this place back to people and bring the people back to this place, which is now only a statue. Prague wants to have there a hotel. So this project is trying to connect the idea of a hotel with another use of this place. There are lots of bycicle paths and a big crossing of them nearby. So first idea was to connect the cycling and the hotel together. But there is also a chappel missing in the nearby housing estate. So the design is connecting all of this together at the end. So there is a new hotel, which has a restaurant in the old building. The restaurant can be used by people from outside the hotel as well. There are lots of ramps which are connecting the bank of the river, where the cycle path is, with the top of the hill, from where is another cycle path going. Also there is a small cafe for tourists and cyclist. The side of the rock can be used as a bouldering wall. And finally there is a big cross, in which the chapel is situated. The visitors of the chapel can use the cafe as well. There is also a multifunctional hall in the hotel. The tower in the old building used to be a connection with another listed building in the center of Prague. When you were in the tower you could see that old building in the center. So in this design there is the big cross, which is now another tower.
