Social Housing, 1 Rue De Turenne (eng) ENG I. Inventory of fixtures On a major axis, structuring the historic center of Paris was situated one of the last buildings declared unhealthy of the 4th district of Paris, in 76 Saint Antoine Street. A gigantic and blind wall which clashed in the Swamp. Behind and in the shade of this wall, a narrow, unhealthy and idle building was in dereliction. In n°76, was a residential building built in the XVII th century. This building high partly on vaults was constituted by a ground floor occupied by a business and 5 floors. The back facade looked onto an adjoining court. A wall pine cog looking onto the street of Turenne constituted the ending of the island. The plot of land of n°74, very narrow, is built and bounded by the street of Turenne. 1.1. Urban and architectural diagnosis The building of n°76, situated near the street of Rivoli, the church Saint Paul and of the place des Vosges, was joined into the perimeter of protection of the “Marais”. Situated in the angle of the Saint Antoine’s street and of the street of Turenne, the plot of land was of a surface of 143 m2. The building contained 5 floors and a last decreasing floor among which 10 housing and a premises of activity at the ground floor. An internal small courtyard enlightened the staircase and the back of housing. The plot of land of n°74 not built, of a surface of 97 m2, was bounded by the street of Turenne, and constituted the ending of the island. The gable wall which separated both plots of land, very impressive, was characteristic the mode of constitution of the surrounding urban fabric. 1.2. Technical diagnosis The general state of buildings was bad, from the point of view of the general outdatedness of materials and equipment’s. Important disorders were visible in the common parts where the instability of the construction required the intensification of all the walls and the floors by scaffolds and wooden wind brace on all the height. floors presented local deformations and constituted a danger. They were wooden and presented a strong slope, due to a differential collapse provoked by movements of facade. fillers of facades were very degraded and did not insure any more the waterproofness. staircases were wooden, walking and landings presented one made uneven importing. II.The improvment project This improvement allows the creation of social housings on a net floor area of 574 m². More precisely; three studios of 32 m², four one-bedroomed flats of 48 m² and four three-bedroomed flats of 83 m². More than a commercial local kept on activity, another commercial local of 120 m² is created. The outdoors vertical circulation finds accommodation in the former court. Every housing benefits from a terrace or from a balcony. The living rooms serve all the rooms, limiting the presence of corridors. They take advantage of the creation of an elevator accessible to all. 2.1. The facade On the new volumes, an outside skin deploys itself, in the purpose of homogenize housings typologies. Thought as an outside net curtain, the façade has a double role. In fact it helps to unified the building, it means formers and recent parts, vertical movements, balcony, attic level the creation of space in housing continuations, source of intimacy and a protection in front of the urban environment . This protection seems all the more relevant as housing is mono-directed on a relatively narrow street. The facade is constituted of fixed and sliding panels Integrating the functions of eclipse and break sun. Panels are in sheet metal aluminum anodized in bronze. The « skin » which surrounding the building lets to residents views on their environment and in the same time preserving them to inquisitive looks. 2.2. Existing building On Saint-Antoine Street and on court the existing building facade are entirely swallowed and puts Put back in their state of origin thanks to the new coating. On Turenne Street, the gable is treated to keep an appearance of materials rich of its history: Appearing quarry stone Three coating colors application, Anti-gas treatment on the ground floor. On the ground floor the façade is homogeneous, entirely glazed, as Shop windows Housing and commerce access hall III. Filter Facade The metallic skeleton, the sliding rails of support and guide of panels. Panels in drilled sheet steel of aluminum. This facade filters more or less the natural light, by permanent openings - perforing of panels, horizontal and vertical functional games between panels - and by flexible openings directly by the users. These glasses are distributed according to the arrangement of the accommodation and the potential manners (partially low movements, bedroom, living room, housing), and are situated in the right of openings arranged (treated carefully) in the tight facade. The fixed panels form lighters and fixed pier glasses. Their conception in lighter allows answering all the geometrical requirements and the resistance of the standards relative to lifelines (NF P 01-012/013). Fixed in nose of paving stone, they wear the fixed panels and the rails of the mobile panels arranged between the lighter and the upper floor. The mobile panels are suspended and sliding. They are manually maneuvered, and answer the criteria of maneuverability extrapolated by the NF P 20-30. The perforation sheet metal: The drawing of the motive was realized from the pixel of a photo of foliage of plane trees Parisian. The diameter of the hole of the perforation was calculated according to the angle of the sunbeam. The sheet steel is stiffened by application on a peripheral frame. To master manufacturing costs, 3 types of panels are produced and the whole facade is made and lends to rest in workshop. The facade is perceived from the outside as a random game of panels, given rhythm by the choice of the occupants. The facade leaks out follows the size in closer, it turns around to form roof at the level of the staircase, arrests attic to form guard rail.
