Leonard Street is in the South Shoreditch conservation area. This building, a semi derelict print works, has been redeveloped as a mixed-use scheme including a restaurant, office space and four live/work apartments. Retaining the original two-storey 1950s structure our brief was to make it appear to be an entirely new building. Our solution was to devise an extension as a sleeve overlaying the existing floors, rather than a straightforward roof extension. This concept rejuvenates the façade while also allowing for a greater internal space.
