Bergamo, the city in which this project rises, is known for its own historical neighborhood landscape, a jewel perched in the higher and older part of the town. Because of this, every new project proposal which is in contrast with the old-fashioned architecture is not well accepted by the inhabitants. Bergamo is also known as the “City of Thousands” in honor of the many citizens (174) who participated to the expeditionary force (1861), leaded by Giuseppe Garibaldi, which had the goal to unify Italy. The just-ended celebrations of the 150th anniversary of Unified Italy, abandoned urban areas, the continuing growing immigrates community, the need of space, the need to save the remaining agricultural areas and the introduction of new technologies lead to the proposal of build a new tower, with an estimate date of completion in year 2861. In honor of the Thousands, the tower will be 2000 feet tall, and there will be 174 cells intended to public functions. From a technological viewpoint we assume that in 2861 technologies will reach a so high level that we are not be able to conceive it so far and, in the meantime, cultural changes will be so deep that inhabitants will accept this tower as a new symbol of the town. The frame of the tower is made with materials not found on hearth so far, they have alien origins so they could be replicated in laboratory only in many years from now. The two mains materials will be the Diamantalium (a special Tinanium foam with a diamond shaped structure), and the Carboron, a special gold and nano-carbon alloy coming from the space. On the skin of the tower is engraved map of the city, the base compressed and dilated on top. Spontaneous vegetation will wrap the most of the tower surface, smoothing the visual impact of the monolith. The internal of the monolith is empty, to benefit vertical connections and air flow . The water will serve as mitigation of UV rays to give benefit to the inhabitants. Two cable railways will serve to link the tower with the city for several years. They will be abandoned when new type of transports will be adopted. This project is intended to be a thinking point for the town and for the whole country which, in the future, cannot avoid to confront itself with the matter of skyscrapers, if it really want to save agricultural areas and giving answers to the future generations. Once it will be done, it will leave its prints in the centuries, at least until an alien civilization will have enough of it…
