historical introduction to the house of brazilian emigrants:
“brazil in the second half of the eighteenth century and during the nineteenth century was the proper place for the accumulation of wealth and the laboratory for what came to be the expansion of small and modest “solar do minho”, construction of new villages and the expansion of cities.” the home of “the brazilian” to “it-journey” was one of the clearest representations of the return, both in structure and façade of buildings, whether the new internal boundaries, dividing people and spaces and revealing new hierarchies and new social boundaries.
historical and architectural characterization:
villa liborio dated 1903 was a private residence, continuously inhabited until the mid eighties of last century, having met several owners. the house was the banner of a larger property than that which now . the choice of their location so close to the old road porto-braga, current e.n.14, eliminated the existence of a front garden to their needs. the house is part of set of majors houses related to agriculture. on the west has an orange grove, on the south one service area of the house connected to the livestock and storage of goods and tools and on the east a extensive garden. the property has long ceased to provide income and livelihood to the house. today the house is uninhabited, without performing any function and showing signs of wear worrying and required maintenance. a fact which requires urgent restoration work of architecture and renovation of all technical facilities so that the new house recover the function for which it was created – welcome with nobility and comfort all who wish to contemplate.
intervention:
the rehabilitation of the villa Liborio necessarily pass through their sustainability. we tried to find a program that was not hostile, adjusting the restoration of its heritage and its domestic scale to his future functions and respecting is current configuration. the proposal is based on the assumption that the house will no longer be just for a family and will be dedicated to the host – a house-type or a rural hotel.
at the ground floor of the house will have a restaurant with a bar area and lounge, with rooms to stay overnight on the upper floors. outside the house, but inside of the property at the basement level, we proposed a event room with 500m2, supported by a similar area of services such as kitchens, storerooms, toilets, meeting rooms and halls.
in the garden will be built a pergola that sets up a central rectangular garden, bounded on the west by a yard that lights up the ballroom. the introduction of this new evidence to the vacant structure, without defining a hierarchy of the visual and outdoor spaces for their different valences and simultaneous usage.
