The architectural competition for the new Limassol municipal offices accommodation called for a landmark building within the centre of the old town that asserts the public nature of its important function while at the same time respects and enhances its historic setting and the architecturally significant adjacent Art-Deco Town Hall. The competition entry design was developed in collaboration with Hawkins/Brown, an award winning London based practice with a strong portfolio of educational and office buildings. The proposal aimed for a building with a strong formal presence integrated within the site, with a simple and rational functional organisation and a clear environmental / energy strategy that will ensure the sustainability of its construction and use over its lifetime and beyond.
