Hotel Deseo | Central de Arquitectura

El Deseo is located in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, a small Caribbean village where fun and relaxation come together. The general idea of this project is to combine these two activities in the same place. The building revolves around a main patio where the public areas dominate. This patio offers a variety of activities and atmospheres, a spatial trace of sensations, platforms, textures, liquid and sky. With the idea of combining architecture and plastic art, we requested Silvia Grunner, a local artist, to make an intervention in the pool (recalling gesamtkunstwerk), which reads “away from you”. The façade is composed by a wood skin that works as filter and threshold between the patio and the rooms. The main stairs recall those of the prehispanic Mayan culture and invite you to an unknown environment until reaching the central patio. The rooms pretend to segregate the border of any disturbance from the city, offering a clean, sober and elegant space. El Deseo se ubica en Playa del Carmen, un pequeño pueblo del Caribe Mexicano donde la diversión y la relajación se funden en uno. El concepto general del proyecto fue combinar dichas actividades en un mismo lugar. El edificio se distribuye alrededor de un gran patio donde se ubican las áreas comunes. Este patio ofrece una gran variedad de actividades y atmosferas, sensaciones espaciales, plataformas, texturas, agua y cielo. Con la idea de combinar la arquitectura y el arte plástico, se le solicito a Silvia Grunner, una artista local, que interviniera la alberca central, dentro de ella se puede leer la frase “Away from you”. La fachada está compuesta por una piel de barrotes de madera que funcionan como filtro y divisor virtual entre el área de habitaciones y el patio. La escalera de acceso, nos recuerda a aquellas escaleras prehispánicas características de la cultura Maya e invitan al usuario a descubrir un ambiente desconocido cuando se llega al final de ellas. Los cuartos se ubican principalmente pegados a las colindancias buscando aislarse de cualquier disturbio proveniente de la ciudad, ofreciendo así limpieza, sobriedad y elegancia en los espacios.
