The pdv/01 project is a small showroom, approximately 250 sq.m, with the design centre for a company specialized in cloth industry. Was asked to design in purpose to accommodate samples of textiles and finished goods as well as creative space where designers are able to reflect on their “crafts”. The main requirement of the client is to have space in relationship with environment and in case of events to unite inside and outside spaces. The site of the project is inside a terrain which is located within an area of great landscape value where over the years the buildings have built up randomly and with no architectural quality. First of all, we are versed to build an architectural work that is able to act as a flywheel in an area with architectural identity related to poor quality of construction. So, this project represents for us the change in the current landscape where the need to become a place is replaced by the identity of a non-place.
The industrial volume presents its individuality with large, concrete boards on the top and button, and glaze surface between them in a way to save sense of void. The central volume that’s formed of glass windows is choice to satisfy the client requirement for opening and closing large windows when it is need and in the same diffused natural light comfortable for working. The inclination and shape of concrete boards is dictated by bioclimatic analysis, based on local climate, aimed at providing thermal and visual comfort, making use of solar energy and other environmental sources. The passive solar systems are incorporated onto building roof and utilise environmental sources such as sun for heating and lighting the building.
The principal idea for interior is an open space, that would give clients the sensation of staying in a space full of light and strongly linked with the nature. To have the clear space we decided to bring together all the technical functions of the store (storage, fitting rooms, electrical quarter, and a structure of four pillars that maintain the roof) in a huge unique structure made from 120 pieces of stretched based systems (Barrisol) mounted utilizing aluminium perimeter track and support framework. It is very strong aspect of the design: measuring roughly 6m long, 4m wide and 4m tall, and help as well to separate the open space in two spaces/function (public and privet). This central element was born as a smooth surface, lately to make it more easy for production and mounting Delaunay triangulation was applied. The effect of undulation is achieved through the use of those different types of triangular panels. The ceiling is made up of a frame of aluminium extrusions, the concealed fluorescent light fittings shining on to the soffit and bouncing back down through the translucent panels to create a diffuse light. All those triangular elements ensuring an appropriate dynamism.
