How is integrated a minimalist building next to monument of the XVI century in Granada?(Spain)

The proposal is included in a trapezoidal plot that occupies a large urban void, on the edge of the old town of Granada, facing a large university park; however, there are three aspects which distinguish the solar with respect to other areas of the city; on the one hand, their situation as a border between green parkand old town; on the other hand, the diversity of types and heights in their environment, and finally the intention to integrate without becoming confusedwith the urban fabric.

It opts for a building with a precise volume, controlled ratio, comprising two prismatic blocks of different shape and height, whose scale is extended by the contrast between horizontal holes and other smaller ones. It is important to minimize the visual impact on the environment, so that the building functions as a visual base and avoids coveringthe view to the "Monastery of the Jeronimos order",(historic monument built in the sixteenth century).

The proposal seeks to appear as two uniform pieces, one of them a taller prism, but as it is located orthogonally to the avenue, its impact is reduced, and faced to it there is an almost square piece of just over a plant that keeps the visual opening of the buildings of the old town from Severo Ochoa Avenue and from the university park.

This works out as an introvert volume organized internally, posing a series of courtyards facing the monastery tower as a mode of filters that isolate the building from outside and introduce natural light filtered. On the other hand, this will not directly link the building to its surroundings, which increases privacy condition of the building. Overall, we propose the performance from a desire to silence and continuity with the urban fabric. The whole design was done with criteria of sustainability and energy efficiencyeven seismic resistance.
