Shingle Family House

The Shingle House, with its pitched roof, long proportions, rectangular layout and porch, is a modern twist on the traditional homes of rural Kansas. This is aided by its redesigned shape and “green” elements. The roof has the perfect pitch for solar panels and the façade mainly consists of shingles. This typically American material has a “green” variation here: these are hurricane-resistant Eco-shake shingles made of recyclable material. The house is made to grow and change. It is possible to add a second floor under the roof. This small floor can function as an office, media room, or simply a bedroom. This makes this house an ideal “starter” home. The living room has a high ceiling and is fully open to the yard, essentially creating a large space encompassing the porch and the outside. Elements such as a sustainable landscape, green roof, solar shingles, recyclable facade, an AMVIC building system, compact fluorescent lights, reclaimed wood, low-flow bathroom and kitchen fixtures, Energy Star appliances, low VOC paints and sealants make this house sustainable and environmentally conscious.
