The original house was a relatively small ‘one and a half storey’ period property. The client wished to refurbish & extend it while remaining sympathetic to the existing. We retained the traditional period feel to the existing house to the front and reproduced Georgian cornices, skirtings, panelled doors etc. We designed an open planned two storey extension to the rear, linked by a roof-lit double height space which pulled light into the centre of the house. This also created a natural break between the old and new parts of the house. Beautiful natural materials were used in the finishes throughout, including Italian travertine in the bathrooms, solid mahogany in the external windows and doors, marble tiles and walnut flooring on the ground floor and Chinese slate on the terrace
