THE ROCK HOUSE - THE HOME OF YOUR DREAMS The sea view was the reason the building was built on the rocky promontory like an element growing from the ground and extending towards the sea, inspired by elements of Mediterranean, Caribbean and Contemporary architecture. A holiday home in the Bahamas built on a rocky promontory descending gently towards the beach. The building is structured on three levels and includes, in addition to the master apartment, two other apartments with independent entrances for guests, and other rooms for servants. It is situated on the northern side of the site, next to the promontory and far from the road, for the panorama and for privacy. The building can easily be transformed into a holiday residence and enlarged by adding more base modules (Hurricane Boxes) either on land or on water. The shape is derived from the free positioning of easily manufactured, independent prismatic modules with load bearing structure in steel. Three volumes intersect to enhance the transparency of the central zone, from the garden on the south side of the house. The master bedroom is suspended over the promontory, supported by stays, a metaphor of a bridge projected towards the sea, and a pylon that emerges from the rock like a spike. The design is characterised by the presence of natural elements such as water, that confront directly with the sea, and stone, wrapping the house like a shell and communicating with the rocky promontory, from which the building rises. The elements in wood, typical of the Caribbean tradition, recall the surrounding vegetation and complete the design. Sliding wooden panels were incorporated into the design because of the tropical climate to protect the interior from typhoons, mosquitos and intruders. The villa is divided into different areas to guarantee the privacy of its inhabitants, with views of the sea and the open spaces. The beating heart of the villa is the living area on two levels; there is also a private office on the upper level. There are two mini apartments for guests in the East wing, each one consisting of a bedroom, a living room and a kitchen. They are directly accessible from the garden via a ramp that also covers the garages. There are also 2 studio apartments reserved for servants or other guests on the ground floor of the same wing. A stream of water, (an element of continuity with the sea), coming from the small pool in the garden, crosses the living room underneath the glass floor to fall into the swimming pool as from a waterfall.
