Artist: Teuta Karakashi Name: Bioclimatic Library for Tirana University Software: AutoCad 2011, 3Ds Max 2010 plugins V-Ray Adv 1.50.SP4a, Photoshop Cs5 The project proposes the construction of a Library for Polytechnic University of Tirana (Albania) with bio-climatic and passive features.The building is divided into three volumes while maintaining a relationship with one another by connecting bridges. The three volumes conform to the cascading slope of the terrain. The strategy of dividing the buildings into 3 volumes is to create efficient noise reduction. The First volume contains the reading journals, the second volume contains the library archive and private reading spaces and the third volume houses the administration offices and library assistance spaces. The library uses a combination of wind power for cooling, heating energy through geothermal systems and the use of solar energy through photovoltaic panels. This experimental system allows for modular pyramid-like glass pieces that contain small photovoltaic panels. They are able to absorb solar energy and transform it into electricity. The panels also allow for the penetration of light inside the building and serve as architectural elements for the façade. They are placed in the facade of the 'double skin'', and automatically move in the sunlight. (Details are shown in the examples) The Bio-climatic Library not only provides the proper design of space for an addition to the University environment but also approperiately addresses the functions of the program by exploiting natural resources without harming the environment.
