The Museum of Contemporary Art and Planning Exhibition (MOCAPE) is developed out of the functional requirements of future museum complexes and deploys various innovative solutions for a modern information center. These innovations are realized through the application of various environmental building systems as well as the integration of innovative construction concepts.
The museum serves as an urban attractor and performs as a dynamic element in the city of Shenzhen’s new urban center, otherwise known as the “Futian Cultural Center”. The building is integrated into the language of the previously deployed master plan while simultaneously establishing itself as an animated addition to the new urban fabric and serves as the final piece in Shenzhen’s urban puzzle.
The Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) and the Planning Exhibition (PE) are conceptualized as a unified whole but are nevertheless articulated in their own unique ways. The various programmatic elements are deployed in the structure according to their functional and performative requirements. The distribution of the different functional elements forms distinctive external as well as internal public spaces.
