Idea: Furà, the suspension lamp, gets its inspiration from nature where light shows itself to be a protagonist in defining forms and ambiences. The cave is a place smoothed by time and when it is pervaded by a band of light, it displays the sinuosity of its forms and its contrasts of light and shadow. The inside of this lamp has a complex composition of curves which reflect the evocative ambience of a cave. These curves taper towards the light source giving an appearance of depth as if the passage of light had penetrated through the rock, itself. Materials: The material used is opaque white polycarbonate which was chosen because of its optimal propagation of the light flow and because of its ductility in recreating complex shapes. In counterpoint to it, the exterior casing is made of shiny black (or white mat) enameled aluminum whose smooth and compact shape reflects the surrounding ambience. Award: 1st prize at Biffi Luce Design Competition “The Art of Illuminating Art” Winner of GRAND DESIGNS AWARDS 2010 (Best Lighting Design)
