Roma Contemporanea Tensile structure for an Art fair, Rome 2007 An important art fair was proposed to the Rome Municipality in 2007. The idea was to launch “Roma Contemporanea”, a fair with similar characters of Frieze in London. This event was supposed to occupy different locations in the city. We were ask to design and build a temporary pavillion for the main exhibition space, to be located in Giardini di Villa Borghese. We thought about a tensile structure, very light and open in order to define and cover the space deputed to art exhibition and dealing. At the same time the space we created wanted to dialogue with the natural environment of gardens of Villa Borghese, being itself an harmonic ant not too invasive structure that allowed to the visitors to have the sensation to be in the park and to enjoy it. A simple, but articulated steel structure, wrapped by a double layer of light perforated steel sheets and transparent plastic films, created a good protection to the works of the artists and to the visitors and the buyers. Vertical surfaced build with plasterboard were thought as a support of the works of art, together with empty spaces to be filled by more voluminous pieces of art. The space was also hosting a bar, a ticket kiosk and a bookstore were also located on the front part of structure.
