San Pedro Garza García, a city in Nuevo Leon State in Mexico, is built in its majority and because of its geographic limitation and natural barriers cannot grow anymore; therefore, the city encourages reutilization and remodeling of old houses that are privileged for its location. This residence is situated half a block from one of Garza García main streets and located from east to west; these are determinant factors for the façades solution. This remodeling made use of the existent structure that originally developed as a disproportionate volume, which complicated the intention to take advantage of the spaces and reuse the structure. The proposal consisted in partially demolishing the front of the house in order to generate a ?veranda? that could make easy to control pedestrian and vehicular access. This ?veranda? was designed in such way the house?s main entrance could still have presence from the street view. Inside the house, the layout proposed the social and service area on the ground floor and the family area on the first floor. Hence, a double height was a perfect solution to connect the social and family areas, but at the same time they could be apart through a sliding wall according to the circumstances; also, a complete visual communication between interior and exterior is possible, it can be seen clearly from the family room on the first floor to the pool on the outside. In the backyard the treatment was quite different, visual communication was very evident. The pool and the patio are integrated into the building by means of a swimming lane that runs alongside to the house on the outside and is emphasized by a water fountain on each side.
