The house represents the extreme principle of movement. In fact, there is a sense of trespassing, of going beyond the real place to reach parallel worlds. The mirror becomes a door, a sort of “stargate” through which we can reach the other dimensions suggested by quantum physics and its theory of anti-matter. The mirror seen as a fusion of the reflecting body P (simple reflection) C (inversion of negative and positive particles) and T (inversion of time) incorporates the bodies’ missing half beyond which the anti-matter can be perceived. For this reason we conceive the house as a half since the rest is to be imagined through composed reflection. The domestic space is reduced to its essence, based on real needs – the rest is just optical illusion. The building type follows the rules of perception so that each side of the house reveals its own anti-matter and thus becomes fully realized. The wall represents the object materializing the boundary between matter and anti-matter. It supports a steel frame incorporating pointed pins hooking up the house’s volume. Anchored to the wall by bolts, this frame totally penetrates the volume and produces an imprint on its surface that makes it visible. The white compact volume creates a marked contrast with the existing condition in terms of both materials and shape, thus acquiring the character of the building additions typical of the Mediterranean landscape. The living unit is small-sized – 3 m wide and 15 m long – and developed over three levels. Each level contains the requested functions resulting in an extremely flexible organization of space. The house’s different levels can be accessed via a lift, while the light penetrating through the continuous glazed wall enclosing the house becomes a boundary between old and new. Far from being a futuristic design, the house rather aims at addressing the new needs that science will probable create for us in the near future in a real and pragmatic way.
