Aggiornamento del 09/05/2009 - Questa mattina un incendio ha colpito il cantiere della Guangzhou Opera House. Non si conosce ancora l'entità dei danni. Si tratta del secondo incendio in Cina che colpisce il cantiere di un progetto firmato da un architetto di fama internazionale. Ricordiamo che il 9 febbraio 2009 è andato in fiamme il Television Cultural Center (TVCC) di Pechino firmato dall’architetto olandese Rem Koolhaas dello studio OMA. Il progetto, firmato dalla progettista anglo-irachena Zaha Hadid, rientra nell’ambito di un ambizioso intervento di sviluppo urbano promosso in vista dei Giochi Asiatici che nel 2010 saranno ospitati a Guangzhou. L’ampio intervento prevede la realizzazione della “Zhujiang New Town”, una nuova città destinata a sorgere sul lungofiume della città, dove troveranno spazio, accanto alla Guangzhou Opera House, le torri gemelle disegnate da Wilkinson Eyre Architects e Arup, il “Children’s Activity Center”, il “Guangdong Museum” di Rocco Yim e la “Guangdong Library”. Ribattezzata “il progetto dei due sassi”, l’Opera House disegnata da Zaha Hadid si sviluppa su complessivi 70mila metri quadrati distribuiti su due differenti aree cui viene conferita identità da due edifici la cui irregolare geometria ricorda i sassi di un fiume. La prima area accoglie il Gran Teatro con una capienza di 1800 posti a sedere; mentre la seconda area ospita una sala multifunzionale in grado di accogliere sino a 400 persone, con caffé, bar e diversi spazi ricreativi. “La sua forma unica a due massi – si legge nel comunicato diffuso da Zaha Hadid Architects – valorizza la funzione urbana della struttura con il suo libero accesso al lungofiume dialogando al tempo stesso con la nuova città in sviluppo”.
