Il progetto, di 1680 mq, consiste in studi audio e video, uffici e aree comuni per 100 dipendenti. L’intento fondamentale del software Skype è alla base del concept del nuovo ufficio; Skype è uno strumento utile e ‘ludico’ che consente di effettuare chiamate chat, voce e video su Internet. Lo schema dell’astrazione dal “mondo interconnesso” è riprodotto nella pavimentazione e nella progettazione degli arredi fissi. L'idea dell’arredo freestanding ‘a bolle’deriva dall’evoluzione dal logo di Skype, la cui nube è stata letteralmente reinterpretata come apparecchio di illuminazione a forma di nuvola, che caratterizza lo spazio chill out. Questa lampada, unica nel suo genere, è composta da un gruppo di globi trasparenti di varie dimensioni. Lo Skype Head Office sorge all'interno di un’ex-fabbrica di birra ed è stato fatto un grande sforzo al fine di realizzare un’acustica di alto livello qualitativo in tutta la struttura, adottando tecniche quali l'installazione e la progettazione di morbide pareti fonoassorbenti. Vista la natura di questi uffici, che lavorano prevalentemente sullo sviluppo audio-video, questi sforzi sono stati necessari. L’attenzione allo sviluppo audio e video è visibile negli interni ed espressa nelle carte da parati con stampe di cavi, auricolari e altri dispositivi simili. L'atmosfera esuberante e i colori allegri sono una traduzione diretta della grafica e del design di Skype. Gli interni contemporanei generano non solo un luogo piacevole alla vista ma anche un vivace ambiente di lavoro. Al posto degli uffici di vecchio stampo con i cubicoli, basati sulla rigida disciplina, questi nuovi interni creano un'atmosfera giocosa che facilita le idee buone, folli e geniali. L’intento di Skype, riproposto in questa nuova sede, è quello di incoraggiare un clima giocoso, come ogni ufficio dovrebbe fare. The Stockholm based architectural firm “PS Arkitektur” has designed the new Swedish head office for Skype. The project consists of audio and video studios, offices and social areas for 100 staff. The core thought of the Skype software application has generated the design concept for the interior of the new office. The core thought being that Skype is a useful and playful tool that allows chats, voice and video calls over the Internet. From this idea the in between spaces between the several abstracted interconnected nodes are extruded from the idea of the interconnected world. The scheme of this abstraction replicates itself in the flooring and in the design of the fixed interior. The idea of the loose bubbly furniture has evolved from the Skype logos. The Skype cloud known from the Skype logo, has been literally reinterpreted as a cloud-shaped lighting fixture, shining throughout the chill out space. The lighting fixture, truly one of its kind, is created by a cluster of lit up translucent globes of various sizes. Created within a former brewery, a major effort has been made in order to accomplish high-end acoustics in the venue, efforts such as installing and designing soft wall absorbers. These efforts have been necessary for an office that predominately works with audio- and video development. This focus on audio- and video development is visible in the interior and expressed in the unique wallpapers with prints of cables, earphones and other devices linked to the audio-video technique. The ebullient atmosphere and the exultant colors are a direct translation from the graphics from the Skype design. The contemporary interior generates not only an eye-pleasing environment but also a vibrant working place. Instead of the old fashioned offices with cubicles, run by stiff discipline, this new interior creates a playful atmosphere that allows good, crazy and brilliant ideas to develop. An office should encourage a playful atmosphere and the Skype office truly does that.
