The main idea is the one of generating a modern space in an old building from the historical center of the city of Timisoara (Romania). The building was constructed in the 1900s and the chosen space is occupied by a pharmacy at the moment. The concept developed from the need to integrate new materials in an old, existing space’s structure. As an inspiration, I used ivy and other parasite-plants. Thus, I’ve created an organic composition, made of relatively new textures (such as Corian) which are “growing” on an old building’s facade, both covering and giving it a modern aesthetic and organic value. The organic elements from the composition are molding after the existent forms, becoming part of the initial volumes. Inside organic shapes become more prominent, dominating the space with visual impact. They become support structures for functional items such as the deck for access to 2nd floor and also support two models of exposure that were “cornered” by the structure of Corian which “grew” over the existent walls. I used furniture signed by famous designers such as Charles Eames, Ross Lovegrove, Timothy Schreiber and Eero Saarinen except the reception desk, where the cash register will be located , which I built particular to fit the formal and chromatic unit of the entire composition. The space is designed as luxury clothing store where collections are presented exclusively on the mannequins which are suspended from the ceiling, giving the impression that they are dead leaving the clothes to be the main ”live” element. The shop is equipped with two relaxation areas where potential clients are counseled before buying the products they want. The ground floor has a table with four chairs, in the back of the store are 2 changing rooms and the warehouse (which has a height equal to the space, 6 m). The warehouse is organized in the six feet tall room with shelves for shoes, shelves and racks for clothes hangers so valuable items should not be damaged or crushed. At the 2nd floor there is just one changing room (more spacious) and a less exposed discussion area (with 3 places) where can be received, if necessary, very important people who do not want to be seen from outside the building through the glass windows.
