La Summer house Vestfold 2 dello studio norvegese JVA - Jarmund / Vigsnæs AS è situata sulla costa della contea di Vestfold, nella parte meridionale della Norvegia ed una residenza a cinque camere da letto. Il sito è esposto a duri venti meridionali e a continui spruzzi di acqua salata. La casa sostituisce un vecchio edificio più grande che sorgeva sul sito. Per ottenere il permesso di edificazione, il progetto doveva essere ben inserito nel lotto, in termini di forma, dimensioni, materiale e colore.
Il nuovo edificio è più piccolo di quello vecchio e un po’ più distante dal mare. La casa e le terrazze sono in parte state costruite su murature in pietra preesistenti e in parte con pietre del sito.
Il volume basso e allungato viene tagliato per permettere alle aree esterne, “abbracciate” dalla casa stessa, di essere schermate dal vento. Questi tagli riducono la scala dell’edificio, e insieme alle variazioni di sezione, lo rendono omogeneo alle formazioni rocciose circostanti.
Le pareti e il tetto, architettonicamente, sono trattati allo stesso modo e, in funzione delle condizioni climatiche, vi è una distinzione tra l'esposizione orizzontale e verticale.
L'interno della casa è dominato da superfici rivestite in rovere bianco; la luce del mare è molto forte e i colori degli interni sono mantenuti su tinte relativamente scure al fine di attenuare la luce intensa.
Le pareti interne tra cucina e soggiorno e tra camere da letto e bagni sono realizzate in lastre di vetro sabbiato a doppio strato con frapposta illuminazione artificiale. La parete funziona, quindi, come “muro di luce” quando fuori è buio e durante il giorno consente alla luce proveniente da sud di raggiungere le camere da letto e bagni.
Sul perimetro esterno delle terrazze e della piscina una recinzione di vetro protegge dal vento consentendo di godere delle viste panoramiche.
Le superfici esterne dell’edificio sono rivestite con legno Kebony, un trattamento del legno sostenibile che permette una buona durata nell'aggressione della salsedine. Con il tempo la superficie diventa di colore grigio argenteo uniforme e necessita di ulteriori trattamenti.
The Summer house is located on the coast of Vestfold in the southern part of Norway, and is a five bedroom house for a family.
The site is exposed to rough southern winds and sprays of salt water.
The house replaces an older, larger building at the site. To get the planning permit, the project had to be well adjusted to the terrain, both in terms of shape, scale, material and color. The new building is even lower than the old, and withdrawn further from the seaside.
The house and terraces are partly built upon existing stone walls; the parts of the stone walls which are new are made of stones from the blasting at the site.
The low elongated volume is cut into to allow for wind shielded outdoor areas, which are embraced by the house itself. These cuts also bring down the scale of the building, and together with the local variations of the section, make the building relate to the surrounding cliff formations. The walls and roof are treated equally, architecturally speaking; according to climatic conditions where the distinction between horizontal and vertical exposure is diffused.
The interior of the house is dominated by surfaces clad with white oak, the sea light is very strong and the colours of the interior are kept relatively dark in order to soften the intense, low angled light.
The interior walls between the kitchen/living room areas and the bedrooms and bathrooms are made of sand blasted Profilitt glass panes. This is double sided, which allows for internal artificial lighting inserted in between the layers. The wall thus works as a light wall when it is dark outside, and allows for daylight from south to reach the bed rooms and bath rooms at day time.
On the outer perimeter of terraces and pool, a glass fence also protects against wind, but still allows for maximum view from terraces and indoor spaces.
The external surfaces of the house are clad with Kebony wood, a sustainable process of treating the wood to allow for good durability towards the exposure to salt water. In time the surface will turn an even, silvery grey; it will not need any further treatment.
