Klozet Boutique | Entre Quatre Murs
Moncton / Canada / 2024
Entre Quatre Murs has designed the interior of Klozet, a high-end fashion boutique in Moncton. The project transforms a raw commercial unit into a retail destination with a strong sense of identity. Spatial constraints served as a foundation for a refined, intentional, and highly personalized architectural intervention.
A project shaped through creative dialogue
From the earliest stages, the design process unfolded in close collaboration with the brand’s founder. The program aimed to move beyond the typical functions of a store to create a space of experience and reflection, aligned with a vision of contemporary fashion grounded in sustainability, elegance, and simplicity.
Constraints as creative catalyst
The project called for the design of a retail environment within an existing unit marked by distinctive technical features: an exposed concrete structure, a ceiling crowded with mechanical systems, and a rigid rectangular grid. Rather than hiding these elements, the design integrates them into a spatial composition that brings technical realities into a dialogue with a sensitive and deliberate architectural approach.
Curved lines and enveloping forms
In contrast to the rigidity of the base space, the design introduces a series of gestures inspired by organic forms. Curved lines, arches, alcoves, and softened volumes offer a more fluid reading of the space and support intuitive, non-linear circulation. Custom millwork extends the architectural language. At the center of the layout, a thermoformed Corian cash desk acts as a spatial anchor, directing movement and housing sales and service functions. Display podiums in mineral plaster curve along the walls, allowing for subtle and adaptable merchandising zones.
Soft materials and filtered light
The material palette was chosen to cultivate a calm, sensory atmosphere. Lime-plastered walls create a matte, tactile surface that catches the light in subtle ways. Polished concrete flooring preserves the raw character of the original space. Accents in bronze are used with restraint to introduce a quiet sophistication.
Natural light enters through a series of vertical bronze fins placed in the storefront. These elements animate the façade, preserve interior privacy, and cast shifting patterns of shadow throughout the day. A simple smart system controls lighting levels and ambient sound, allowing the mood to adapt to traffic and time of day.
A spatial journey designed as a moment of pause
Within a compact footprint, the space unfolds in a sequence of distinct atmospheres. The customer path includes a lounge area composed of soft armchairs, felted wool rugs, and suspended lighting. This zone offers a moment of stillness in the spatial rhythm. In the background, the founder’s glazed office, located just beyond the women’s section, reflects the same aesthetic principles and reinforces spatial continuity. The program also includes a staff rest area and universally accessible washrooms. Often overlooked in retail settings, these support spaces received the same care and attention, embodying a consistent and inclusive approach.
Urban presence and interior coherence
Located on one of Moncton’s commercial streets, the boutique contributes to the revitalization of the existing urban fabric. The façade, animated by the bronze panels, responds to the surrounding architectural language, while affirming a contemporary presence. Inside, the curved geometries, earthy tones, and muted lighting reflect a desire for serenity, coherence, and product focus.
Klozet represents a retail design approach centered on experience, attentive collaboration, and precision. By uniting technical discipline with a sensory-driven language, Entre Quatre Murs has created a space that is lasting, distinctive, and truly inhabited.
