Eng: Can an ancient stable be transformed into a swimming pool? Between Noto, Modica, and Rosolini, it seems the answer is yes. All it takes is a shift in perspective — a redrawing of the horizon line — achieved through what may appear a simple gesture: removing the roof of an old building, laying it bare to the sky.

This meticulous act of subtraction led Bevilacqua Architects — invited to participate in the ambitious reconversion of the agricultural estate initiated by the owners, Sebastiano Italia and Andrea Di Franco — to preserve the original perimeter volume, now structurally reinforced and reimagined with new apertures.
Full-height portals of access compel the space to become something else entirely, to engage in a dialogue with sharp geometries of light and shadow, to become permeable.
Interior and exterior, enclosure and openness, coexist in deliberate tension.

And though the architectural language leans unapologetically toward contemporary abstraction, conjuring a space with metaphysical resonance, the pool remains a key element of integration with the surrounding landscape — preserving a local grammar, respectful of context and material tradition.
