Casa Due Anime | Bevilacqua Architects

In this domestic project, two souls coexist. Two subtle narrative threads that, crossing each other, take shape and mutual substance. Everything here is played out on the theme of duality, contrasts that create added value, short circuits that enrich the interior design project. On one side, there is Italy, specifically Rome. Or rather, Trastevere.

Its history, its narrow streets, those rooftops with wooden beams, and the houses without elevators. On the other side, there is Germany, Stuttgart, the homeland of the clients. Clean, essential, without frills or embellishments. Two souls meeting, two almost opposing attitudes. One more functional, the other more dreamy. This theme is expressed from the outset, particularly in the collaborative approach to the design carried out by Bevilacqua Architects, through the four-handed collaboration between Marta and Marco, who here take on the dual role of architect and designer (one of the wall sconces, Tacito, is of her design). And then in the synergy between them, the owners, and the artisans involved.

On one side, there was a pre-existing structure that seemed to express a certain character, despite the

original layout being organized as a series of small rooms and suspended corridors. On the other side,

there were new spatial, aesthetic, and functional needs. It required a bit of healthy imagination: the clients, on the architects’ suggestion, chose the space, having been involved from the very beginning in the acquisition stages, perceiving its potential.

The extensive demolitions not only made the space continuous and open, directly connecting the two

facades, but also uncovered features that could not be overlooked in the design, such as the original structure with its double height and exposed beams.

In questo progetto domestico coesistono due anime. Due sottili fli narrativi che incrociandosi prendono corpo e vicendevole sostanza. Ogni cosa, qui, è giocata sul tema del doppio, di contrasti che determinano plusvalori, cortocircuiti che arricchiscono il progetto d’interior. Da una parte c’è l’Italia, anzi Roma. O meglio, Trastevere. La sua storia, i suoi vicoli, quei tetti con le travi in legno e le case senza ascensore. Dall’altra la Germania, Stoccarda, patria dei committenti. Pulita, essenziale, senza fronzoli ne orpelli. Due anime che si incontrano, due attitudini quasi. Una più funzionalista, l’altra più sognatrice. Questo tema si esprime da principio, soprattutto nell’approccio corale alla progettazione messo in atto dai Bevilacqua Architects, attraverso la collaborazione a quattro mani tra Marta e Marco, qui nel doppio ruolo professionale di architetto e designer (è di suo disegno una delle applique a parete, la Tacito). E poi nella sinergia tra loro, i proprietari e le maestranze coinvolte. Da un lato c’era una preesistenza che sembrava esprimere un certo carattere, nonostante l’impianto originale fosse organizzato come un susseguirsi di piccoli vani e corridoi controsoffttati. Dall’altro, nuove necessità planimetriche, estetiche e di fruizione. Ci voleva un po’ di sana immaginazione: venne scelta dai committenti su suggerimento degli architetti, che coinvolti da subito nelle fasi di acquisto, ne hanno percepito il potenziale. Le consistenti demolizioni hanno non solo reso lo spazio continuo, aperto, in collegamento diretto tra i due affacci, ma hanno anche messo a nudo, di-svelandole, caratteristiche che non potevano essere trascurate dal progetto, come la struttura originaria con la sua doppia altezza e le travi a vista.
