Neptù | ITS NOT A STUDIO

In the heart of Barcelona, specifically in the picturesque Gràcia neighborhood, lies this 86-square-meter apartment. Although it was delivered in 2023 as part of a new construction development, its owners — a young couple with a 2-year-old child — never felt entirely comfortable with the finishes or the space distribution.

For this reason, they challenged us to carry out a comprehensive renovation to transform their home into a warmer, more functional, and personalized space. We focused especially on transforming the daytime areas, optimizing the layout to improve circulation and enhance spaciousness and natural light. During the process, we subtly identified areas for improvement throughout the rest of the home that, once addressed, contributed to a greater sense of coherence and fluidity in the overall design.

One of the main focal points of the project is the custom-made, double-height central bar, designed ad hoc by us and crafted from Cubro wood and RMC terrazzo, materials that ensure visual continuity with the surrounding furniture. This semi-circular, multifunctional element acts as an extension of the kitchen, also from Cubro and RMC, and offers a versatile space for play, leisure, and work. Its curved shape also establishes an aesthetic link with other rounded design elements, such as the customized tile flooring from Mosaic Factory, arranged in organic and fluid patterns.

Visual harmony is reinforced by the presence of a round dining table designed by our studio and gently curved, seventies-inspired niches that provide continuity and a cozy sense of warmth to the space. One of them holds a small secret: it conceals the television, which only appears when needed, thanks to an ingenious system of hidden wheels. This functional yet playful solution reflects a home designed down to the smallest detail. Aesthetically, we opted for a vibrant color palette and natural materials that bring life and personality to every corner. Primary colors predominate, with yellow and blue as protagonists, while green, orange, and red appear in interior design and decorative details.

The final nod to color and play unfolds in a bold, almost theatrical staging. Postmodern chairs in electric blue, a Flower Pot lamp in butane orange, and a burgundy piece by Muller Van Severen complete this playful yet sophisticated palette. The Plec marble coffee table from RS Barcelona adds sculptural strength, while the anthropomorphic lobster by young Malaga artist Pedro Hoz bursts in with humor and character, blurring the lines between art and object. For the bathroom and suite floors, we chose microcement to create visual continuity and highlight the repetitive geometry of the 10 x 10 cm square wall tiles.

In the nighttime areas, we made only minor adjustments to the partition walls, which surprisingly made a big difference in terms of comfort and spatial efficiency. We incorporated custom-made furniture in several rooms to optimize storage without overwhelming the space, thus achieving a coherent design adapted to the specific needs of the owners.

The result of this intervention is a total transformation: an apartment that initially lacked character has become a dynamic, joyful, and lively home.

En el corazón de Barcelona, concretamente en el pintoresco barrio de Gràcia, se encuentra este apartamento de 86 metros cuadrados.

Aunque fue entregado en 2023 como parte de una promoción de obra nueva, sus propietarios —una pareja joven con un niño de 2 años— nunca llegaron a sentirse del todo cómodos con los acabados ni con la distribución del espacio.

Por eso, nos plantearon el reto de llevar a cabo una reforma integral para convertir su vivienda en un espacio más cálido, funcional y personalizado.

Nos centramos especialmente en transformar las zonas de día, optimizando la distribución para mejorar la circulación y potenciar la amplitud y la luz natural.

Durante el proceso, fuimos detectando sutiles áreas de mejora en el resto de la vivienda que, una vez abordadas, contribuyeron a generar una mayor sensación de coherencia y fluidez en todo el conjunto.

Uno de los principales focos del proyecto es la barra central a medida de doble altura, diseñada ad hoc por nosotros y fabricada en madera Cubro y terrazo RMC, materiales que garantizan una continuidad visual con el mobiliario que la rodea.

Este elemento semicircular y multifuncional actúa como una extensión de la cocina, también de Cubro y RMC, además de ofrecer un espacio versátil para el juego, el ocio y el trabajo.

Su forma curva establece también un vínculo estético con otros elementos redondeados del diseño, como el pavimento de baldosas personalizado de Mosaic Factory, dispuesto en patrones orgánicos y fluidos.

La armonía visual se refuerza con la presencia de una mesa de comedor redonda de diseño propio del estudio y de unos nichos suavemente curvados, de inspiración setentera, que aportan continuidad y una acogedora sensación de calidez al espacio.
Uno de ellos guarda un pequeño secreto: oculta el televisor, que solo aparece cuando se necesita, gracias a un ingenioso sistema de ruedas ocultas. Una solución funcional pero lúdica, que refleja una vivienda pensada hasta en el más mínimo detalle.

Estéticamente, optamos por una paleta de colores vibrantes y materiales naturales que aportan vida y personalidad a cada rincón. Predominan los tonos primarios, con el amarillo y el azul como protagonistas, mientras que el verde, el naranja y el rojo aparecen en detalles del interiorismo y la decoración.

El ultimo guiño al color y al juego se despliega en una puesta en escena atrevida, casi teatral.

Sillas postmodernas en azul eléctrico, una lámpara Flower Pot en naranja butano y una pieza burdeos de Muller Van Severen completan esta paleta lúdica y a la vez sofisticada. La mesa de centro Plec de mármol, de RS Barcelona, aporta fuerza escultórica, mientras que la langosta antropomorfa del joven artista malagueño

Pedro Hoz irrumpe con humor y carácter, desdibujando las fronteras entre arte y objeto.

Para el suelo de los baños y de la suite optamos por el microcemento, con el fin de generar continuidad visual y resaltar la geometría repetitiva de los azulejos cuadrados de 10 x 10 cm de las paredes.

En las zonas de noche, realizamos solo pequeños ajustes en los tabiques, que sorprendentemente marcaron una gran diferencia en términos de confort y eficiencia espacial. Incorporamos mobiliario a medida en varias estancias para optimizar el almacenamiento sin sobrecargar el espacio, logrando así un diseño coherente y adaptado a las necesidades específicas de los propietarios.

El resultado de esta intervención es una transformación total: un piso que en un principio carecía de carácter se ha convertido en un hogar dinámico, alegre y lleno de vida.
