Object and landscape:

Through an intuitive process, a link is established between object and landscape, between man and nature.

In a place of imposing beauty and scale, the fragmented volume finds its ways of integrating into the territory apparently effortlessly, preserving its natural conditions. In a subtle modelling of the topography, the volume sinks and settles, achieving a sensation that it emerges from the earth. Or it rises and rotates seeking distant views. The proposal will always opt for dialogue and balance between the existing and projected landscape.

The route, the experience:

Through a route that begins at the low level of the land and a lateral ascent, the object is identified in the distance. As we approach the house, the play of higher vertical elements is recognized and the house is revealed.

The experience is based on the act of moving and observing the vast surrounding landscape from different points. The passage from one space to another becomes a dynamic, natural and emotional experience.

Paradoxically, the vastness of the territory becomes the greatest difficulty in ensuring a pleasant experience of the place. The recovery of the human scale is of vital importance. Patios, viewpoints and thresholds contain the landscape, sheltering and preparing the user for their entry.

Taking a pause, leaving the everyday:

Architecture is also about retreating into the interior of the house. Creating living spaces that are installed in the landscape. To move from one to another, just as outside, circulations are generated that motivate one to stop, attracted by the constant change of light and views.

Leaving the everyday, following the path of light and shadows trapped in roughness and imperfections. The house shows in the apparent defects, the hidden quality of the things that accompany life.

Structure and matter:

A materiality and construction system is chosen that allows the desired plasticity and versatility, that can contain the soil and adapt to the existing topography. That it can carry large areas of earth on its slabs to spread vegetation over it and that it has the capacity to respond over time to an aggressive and unpredictable Andean equatorial climate (3200 meters above sea level).

Load-bearing walls support large raised beams that resolve spans of up to 12 m in length. We seek a relationship between the interior spatiality of the house and its continuity with the exterior landscape, achieving a light and fluid spatial threshold that contrasts with the built mass of concrete.

Objeto y paisaje:

Mediante un proceso intuitivo, se establece un vínculo entre objeto y paisaje, entre hombre y naturaleza.

En un lugar de belleza y escala imponentes, el volumen fragmentado, encuentra sus modos de integrarse en el territorio aparentemente sin esfuerzo, conservando sus condiciones naturales. En un sutil modelado de la topografía, el volumen se hunde y asienta logrando una sensación de que emerge de la tierra. O se eleva y rota buscando vistas distantes. La propuesta optará siempre por el diálogo y equilibrio entre el paisaje existente y el proyectado.

El recorrido, la experiencia:

Mediante un recorrido que empieza en la cota baja del terreno y un ascenso lateral se identifica el objeto a lo lejos. En la aproximación a la casa, el juego de elementos verticales de mayor altura se reconoce y la casa se va develando.

La experiencia se basa en el acto de moverse y observar el vasto paisaje circundante desde diferentes puntos. El paso de un espacio a otro se convierte en una vivencia dinámica, natural y emocional.

Paradójicamente la inmensidad del territorio se convierte en la mayor dificultad para garantizar una amable experiencia del lugar. La recuperación de la escala humana es de vital importancia. Patios, miradores y umbrales, contienen el paisaje, cobijando y preparando al usuario para su ingreso.

Hacer una pausa, salir de lo cotidiano:

La arquitectura también es recogerse en la interioridad de la casa. Creando espacios de estancia que se instalan en el paisaje. Para desplazarse de uno a otro, al igual que en el exterior, se generan circulaciones que motivan a detenerse, atraídos por el constante cambio de luz y de vistas.

Salir de lo cotidiano, seguir el recorrido de la luz y sombras atrapadas en las rugosidades e imperfecciones. La vivienda muestra en los defectos aparentes, la cualidad escondida de las cosas que acompañan la vida.

Estructura y materia:

Se opta por una materialidad y sistema constructivo que permita la plasticidad y versatilidad deseada, que pueda contener el suelo y adaptarse a la topografía existente. Que logre cargar grandes superficies de tierra en sus losas para extender la vegetación sobre ella y que tenga la capacidad de responder con el tiempo a un clima ecuatorial andino agresivo e impredecible (3200 msnm).

Muros portantes soportan grandes vigas peraltadas que resuelven luces de hasta 12 m de longitud. Buscamos una relación entre la espacialidad interior de la casa y su continuidad con el paisaje exterior, logrando un umbral espacial ligero y fluido que contrasta a la masa de hormigón edificada.
