Private Residence | Space Copenhagen
Copenhagen / Denmark / 2024
Nestled in one of Copenhagen's most charming, green, and historic districts, this stunning 267 sqm apartment offers a perfect blend of tranquillity and urban convenience. Situated in a peaceful and serene neighbourhood, it's just a 5-minute walk from the vibrant and dynamic heart of the old town centre.
The apartment's owners are Berit and Peter, who live there with their beloved dog, Vera. Their children, William and Caroline, also return to the family home whenever they are back from studying abroad.
After 25 years of living north of Copenhagen, Berit and Peter were ready to embark on a new, energised urban chapter. Their children had grown up in a close-knit community surrounded by nature, water and ample opportunities for sports. Now, with their children venturing into adulthood, it was time for a change.
Space Copenhagen’s approach to this project was to embrace this exciting new journey for them as a couple, focusing on understanding their aspirations and desires, to craft a living space that fosters engagement, travel and social activities, while providing a serene retreat from the bustle of everyday life.
It was essential to create a setting that not only reflects their current lifestyle but also anticipates future adventures. The open, generous spaces are designed to be adaptable and ready to welcome new layers and experiences that will be added over the coming years.
The design studio’s primary goal was to honour the apartment's beautiful, original architectural details and ornate historic character. We carefully paired these elements with thoughtfully selected furniture pieces and a soft, warm material palette to create a contemporary yet cosy and inviting atmosphere.
The design philosophy of the private apartment adheres to Space Copenhagen’s commitment to ‘Slow Aesthetics’, which uses natural materials and craft with quality, longevity and a certain slowness inherent to its practice. The material selection prioritises wood, natural stone, tiles and a subdued colour palette with subtle textures. Each material is chosen for its inherent elegance and longevity—principles of simplicity and utility, creating harmony and connecting the space to its Danish heritage.
