A Tudor-style home built for a family of six in the Tanglewood area of Houston. The intention was to not be overly elaborate, but rather playful and refined, and to blend in with the traditional fabric of the neighborhood. With a required 10k sq ft of interior space, there is still a desire for cozy, intimate areas with the inglenook, breakfast room, and sitting room.

The English character is enhanced with the material palette of brick and cast stone, a slate roof, and copper elements throughout. Large chimneys with brick detailing and steep roof pitches create a dramatic roofline. The steel doors and lead glass windows create a soft, modern feel.

As an active family involved in sports, there was a large focus on the outdoor area, so storage and organization was a must. The outdoor seating and cooking spaces focus towards the pool. Oversized copper gas lanterns are suspended from the double height ceiling of the rear terrace; custom brackets were designed to prevent swaying. The porte-cochere is connected to the garden within a breezeway and the arched opening is completed by a circular gate designed by Heath Thibodeaux.
