Office between sophistication and simplicity | JWA Studio
Paris / France / 2025
Located just a few steps from the Montmartre hill, these offices have been designed to offer a space that is both minimalist, functional, and warm. Their design draws inspiration from the rigorous lines of the American functionalist style of the 1950s, evoking the modernist elegance of Mies van der Rohe and the iconic aesthetic of the Mad Men series.
The materials chosen are noble and authentic: various types of wood harmoniously blend with leather, stainless steel, and different varieties of marble, reflecting the attention to detail and refinement of office spaces as imagined in Jacques Tati’s films.
A key element of the interior architecture is a large circular opening, which counterbalances the strict, rectilinear lines of the overall design, bringing a sense of fluidity and lightness that naturally integrates into the space. This architectural detail softens the austerity of the functionalist forms by adding a bold touch.
The color palette embraces a vintage charm: off-whites are paired with a deep burgundy ceiling, while the baseboards, adorned with black and garnet ceramic tiles, introduce a subtle graphic detail. Thanks to large openings and the reflective properties of the materials, natural light floods the offices, creating a radiant and dynamic atmosphere that evolves throughout the day. The interplay of textures continues here, where the glossy finish of the baseboards contrasts with the absorbent nature of the ceiling, playing with light to shape ever-changing moods.
This subtle interaction evokes a harmonious tension between sophistication and simplicity.
To enhance the authenticity and soul of the space, almost all the furniture has been carefully sourced from vintage collections. Each piece, selected one by one, contributes to an aesthetic where modernist design and timeless elegance converge, creating an environment rich in history and style.
