The interior of the restaurant and beer hall in Holešovice's Vnitroblock, which, thanks to its atmosphere, carries the hallmark of a "little Berlin," naturally lends itself to an industrial design. Our goal was to bring a touch of elegance and playfulness into the space, creating an environment where guests feel comfortable while maintaining a timeless character.
We divided the restaurant into two conceptual sections.
The main area is a spacious open beer hall, dominated by a bar clad in aluminum panels that evoke beer foam. The bar is complemented by a menu board that is integrated into the lighting structure. Next to the bar, a cube covered in charred wood protrudes into the space, housing part of the kitchen, which is open to customers. This allows guests to observe the final plating of dishes before they are served.
We wanted the beer hall to offer multiple seating styles. There is bar seating for a quick beer "on the go," whose steel frame is inspired by the metal bed structures once used in reformatories. Along the wall, there is mid-height seating in the so-called "trucovna" (a nook for solitude), allowing guests to spend time alone in a quiet environment. At the head of the extensive beer hall, beneath a large skylight, stands a massive wooden table with a black-stained bench, serving as the focal point of the space. It can accommodate either a large group of people or several smaller groups. Above this table, on the white wall, a conceptual gallery space has been created to exhibit works by local artists.
The main area’s walls consist of exposed bricks sprayed white. The ceiling remains in its original concrete finish, cleaned only of impurities. Throughout the space, exposed electrical and ventilation installations emphasize the industrial character of the interior.
From the beer hall, guests can enter a lounge through a stainless-steel portal. In contrast to the bright beer hall, this lounge is designed in black tones. This part of the restaurant has a calmer atmosphere, offering an opportunity to enjoy the evening in a smaller group, isolated from the main area’s hustle and bustle. Opposite the lounge entrance is an atypical stainless-steel table with a top made of the same material as the bar, reminiscent of beer foam. In the dark space, this table acts as a statement piece and allows for comfortable seating for larger groups of guests.
To bring more natural light into this area, we broke through the front wall of the black cube and replaced it with glass set in a steel slanted frame. Besides the stainless-steel table, the dominant feature of the lounge is a black wall covered in beer bottles, creating a subtle wave effect.
The monochromatic base of the interior is complemented by striking yellow graphics, which also serve as a navigation system, intuitively guiding guests through the space. Lines on the concrete floor lead visitors exactly where they need to go—whether to the bar, the restrooms, or the "trucovna."
The path to the restrooms passes through a yellow tunnel with an equally colored steel staircase.
The restrooms themselves are designed in a clean, dark finish, and because we believe every restroom should have something extra, we included a discreet see-through panel between the men's and women's sections. Since this feature is placed beneath a mirror spanning the length of the sink wall, it keeps visitors guessing until the last moment—illusion or reality?
