single-family home in Barcelona | Raúl Morlans
Family house outside of Barcelona Barcelona / Spain / 2025
Jordi and Raquel reached out to us because YES 😊, but also NO 🙁—you know what I mean. Building or renovating your home should be done with the next 20 or 25 years of your life in mind. A loose end ties to the next, then another, and another, until a point comes when your own intuition—the one that guides your path—tells you to stop. And they stopped. Well, they stopped and contacted us.
They were building the house of their dreams, yet deep inside, they felt something wasn’t right. And it wasn’t working because it couldn’t work—at least not without people like us, the "obsessive ones," who take the time to analyze their daily rituals: how they live, how they cook, what kind of shopping they do, what their work or weekends look like. In short, we enter their lives (as much as they allow us to) to observe, intuit, and design a home that truly becomes an extension of their way of living.
Once we resolved the functionality of the house in the first stage—focusing on the things that “can’t be seen” but are felt every day—we moved on to the aesthetics. The project drew inspiration from nature, from the infinite palette of textures and colors that organic matter offers—unpretentious yet deeply rich.
A central skylight, stretching across two floors, defines the bright and open character of the house. The placement of long willow leaves within the skylight gives every perspective a wild, untamed beauty. From there, everything flows, everything connects…
Marbled textures, metallic finishes, warm woods, and the refined Comodoro green in the kitchen. The integration of linear lighting as a design statement. Altogether, this home embraces a broad chromatic palette where materials and colors interact effortlessly, all grounded on a neutral base that enhances the interplay of textures and elevates the materials themselves.
