The project was realized in a small part of the urban fabric, designed to create a tumultuous atmosphere, fortified with the help of the wonderful architecture of the city of Pescara. On the north side, there is the ’round’ building constructed in 1965 and designed by architect Luigi Aligi. Still on the north side, adjacent to the ’round’ building, stands a seafront building characterized by exposed concrete with strong overhangs; this work by Roman architect Francesco Berarducci dates back to 1977. On the west side, at the intersection of Via Regina Elena and Via De Amicis, we find another building from the 1960s, built in 1964 based on a design by architect Enrico Summonte.

The proposed intervention fits into this context, taking up the prevailing alignments on Via De Amicis and Via Regina Elena, establishing continuity with the urban fabric.

The theme is to imagine a series of stacked villas. It’s a building with a relatively small footprint, surrounded by terraces/gardens with very pronounced overhangs. The overlapping of the floors, marked by the overhangs of the terraces, is emphasized at the corner between Via De Amicis and Via R. Elena, where the terraces/gardens open up to seek glimpses of the landscape between the sea and the mountains.

The project idea is to reinterpret the block typology of the building, introducing a distribution polarized by the invention of an unexpected sea view. DeAmicis154 is not a seafront building, but it is located in the second row and, like a plant seeking the sun, it is oriented towards this piece of Adriatic landscape, rising above the building in front of it.

The east-facing view presents a clear section of the landscape with cantilevered floors, resembling a sort of urban protrusion.

The white of the wall masses and ceilings is complemented by the metallic gray of the side railings and the metal columns on Via De Amicis. They’re slender pillars that, like the trunks of elongated trees, stand alongside the building.
