The Ocean: Life And Livelihood 2021世界.海洋 生活与生计展 Shenzhen / 2021
The installation contributes to raising awareness on the threats to marine ecosystem and WWF's work on safeguarding Chinese coasts and ocean. The concept starts from the idea of the net as a metaphoric connecting element, to emotionally connect the ocean to people living in the city. Taking inspiration from the shape of the fishing pot nets, we developed modular organic elements that arise up from ground, the repetition of which creates an immersive evocative environment visitors can interact with, being free to move around. Used fishing nets wrapping shows the marks of life and time. They have been cut, adapted, sewed again and installed together, in the same way fishermen do every day, to mend and fix what the ocean is constantly consuming in a relationship of love and struggle.
