Concept
Margherita Rui designed the interior of Nine Bistrot, a restaurant owned by Antonio Scalogna and Melania d’Anna, located in a 17th-century building in the historic centre of Caltagirone. The space fully expresses the potential of 950 Ninefifty through the application of its collections, tailored to a hospitality project. The concept for this architectural and interior design project stems from the desire to highlight the expressiveness and strength of the brand’s collections within a setting that combines history, art, and contemporary design. At the same time, it fosters a harmonious dialogue between the ancient exposed stone and the colourful glazed surfaces of Ninefifty.

Project
The Nine Bistrot spans approximately 160 sqm on the ground floor of a historic building. Across the restaurant's four spaces, Ninefifty's products take centre stage. The chosen collections, Alfabeto and Tessere (crafted in painted terracotta and lava stone), are applied not only to horizontal and vertical surfaces but also to pure volumes such as seating, planters, tables, and counters.

On the floors, the iconic motifs of the Alfabeto collection are laid with a gradient effect, guiding visitors through the space. Meanwhile, the Tessere collection transforms walls into architectural features, seamlessly interacting with the existing structure. The selected palette is Mediterranean, vibrant, and saturated: the spaces are defined by contrasting tones from the brand, including butter white, grass green, coral red, and midnight blue.

The layout consists of four areas: three distinct dining rooms and a central open courtyard, designed for evening aperitifs, framed by the building’s dramatic arches.
The first dining room, seating eight, is distinguished by its grass-green tones, used on the lava stone tabletops and the terracotta surfaces that clad the seating volumes. This room connects to the internal courtyard through a large glass door. All interior fixtures were custom-designed by Margherita Rui and feature lines and motifs that harmonize with the building's architecture.

The open-air space, also rendered in green, features planters clad in 10x10 cm tiles from the Tessere collection, creating an elegant and evocative outdoor area. The third dining room, located at a different level and distinguished by coral red decorative surfaces, features the majestic pure volume of the counter: a parallelepiped clad in Tessere midnight blue tiles, positioned at the centre of the room. Surrounding the counter and along the walls, the designer has clad volumes and partitions in bold contrasting colours, creating a striking juxtaposition with the warm exposed stone of the historic walls.

The final dining room, more intimate in scale, is designed to host a large communal table, ideal for family dinners. The lighting design, developed by the architect Eleonora Grigoletto, enhances the various spaces and echoes the lines and motifs of the glazed glass fixtures. For the Bistrot, the designer also created a series of custom furnishings, including stools, seating, and tables—a collection featuring iron structures and glazed lava stone surfaces.
