The Klausenpass Hotel: a silent presence

We are near the Klausen pass, in central Switzerland, which connects the villages of Altdorf and Linthal via the Schächen Valley. The Hotel Klausenpass is located in the old village of Unterschächen, which still has less than a thousand inhabitants, in an Alpine region formed by the Reuss river basin. It was created following the demolition of a historic liberty style hotel, which had presided over the valley for 120 years.

The hotel is equipped for sports tourists, particularly cycling enthusiasts, and is set in a landscape where buildings are a rarity. Klausenpass offers modern, cosy rooms, a restaurant, many parking lots and a fine outdoor terrace. The Geopietra® manufactured stone, laid on fibre cement slabs, dominate the building, looking out the valley. Here the stone is interrupted only by a series of long dark wood panels applied on a rectangular section that isn’t surprisingly perpendicular with the main body of the building. The walls supporting the terrace were clad with the natural manufactured stone too, visually incorporating it into the structure. The project's goal was to seamlessly integrate the hotel into its natural surroundings, preserving the wild environment of the area. The Swiss firm Linear Projekt AG opted for the Geopietra® Bergamo model, using Grigio Terra shade, laid with standard joints using GeoBi mortar in its darkest colour (Arena). Geopietra® is present inside the restaurant too, as a connection between exterior and interior. Murogeopietra® guarantees safety and durability even in the most prohibitive conditions, such as the long winters of this area.

Ci troviamo nel passo del Klausen, nella Svizzera centrale, che collega i paesi di Altdorf e Linthal, passando dalla valle dello Schächen. L’Hotel Klausenpass si trova nell’antico paesino di Unterschächen, che ancora oggi non raggiunge il migliaio di abitanti, nella regione alpina formata dal bacino del fiume Reuss. La struttura è nata in seguito alla demolizione di uno storico hotel in stile Liberty, che ha presidiato la valle per ben 120 anni.

L’albergo è attrezzato per i turisti sportivi, in particolare per gli amanti del ciclismo ed è inserito in un contesto paesaggistico dove le costruzioni sono una rarità. Klausenpass è dotato di camere moderne e accoglienti, un ristorante, ampi parcheggi e una pregevole terrazza esterna. La pietra ricostruita Geopietra®, posata su lastre di fibrocemento, domina la struttura, che si affaccia sulla valle. La pietra viene qui interrotta solamente da una serie di lunghi pannelli in legno scuro applicati su di una sezione rettangolare che fuoriesce sorprendentemente dal corpo principale dell’edificio. Anche le pareti che sorreggono la terrazza sono state rivestite con la pietra naturale ricostruita, inglobandola visivamente nella struttura. Un progetto che ha sicuramente avuto come scopo quello di mimetizzare l’hotel, per non deturpare l’ambiente selvatico della zona. Così lo studio svizzero Linear Projekt AG ha optato per il modello Bergamo di Geopietra®, nella tonalità Grigio Terra, posato con fuga con la malta GeoBi nella sua colorazione più scura, Arena. Geopietra® è presente anche all’interno del ristorante come motivo di collegamento tra esterno e interno. Murogeopietra® garantisce sicurezza e durabilità anche nelle condizioni più proibitive, come per esempio i lunghi inverni di questa zona.
