Grevilea House | Miguel Concha arquitectura

Casa Grevilea The Casa Grevilea project consisted of the remodeling and expansion of the home of a family that was looking for more space and established privacy and the differentiation of spaces as priorities, paying special attention to social life and the dynamics of the children. Starting from the original construction – a complete two-story house, with three bedrooms and a double-height living-dining room – the architectural work involved expanding the property towards the neighboring land, taking into account that this meant three things: doubling its extension, redistributing the different activities and unifying the style of the new proposal with the previous one. The solution was found in constructing a building that generated a certain symmetry and balance with the existing one and was integrated by a bridge and a façade that, combining burnt wood, cumaru in a natural tone and exposed concrete, set the style of this new phase. TOUR The concern for privacy is evident from the main entrance, which is hidden behind a green fence and a winding staircase. Between the two volumes that make up the house runs a hallway of Monterrey marble engraved with a pattern that would also inspire the shapes of a fence designed specifically for the project. With the green flash of ferns and lion claws on the sides, the reception area has a jungle feel that escapes into the freshness of a pond and a garden that extends, free and wooded, in the background. On the left side, the original, geometric and imposing building – and previously covered with aluminum panels – continues the burnt wood façade. Inside, the spaces that served as living room and dining room were destined for the children's study and play activities; this was done through interior design decisions that included the incorporation of children's furniture and elements of tones and textures that generated a cheerful atmosphere, as welcoming as it was striking. On the first level, what used to be the main room was transformed into a guest bedroom and, between the children's rooms, a shared dressing room was installed. Connecting the latter with the main room, the bridge that joins the old and new buildings was built. To the right of the entrance hall, equally geometric and of equally imposing height, the second volume also houses the social area on the ground floor and the wine cellar in the basement, a large parking lot. Taking center stage on the entire surface of the first level, the master bedroom was designed as an intimate space where, apart from everything else, the study, bedroom, bathrooms, dressing rooms and gym all come together. Natural lighting is obtained from a terrace that colors the view from the bed and a skylight that replicates the pattern of the marble at the entrance and projects it in shadows depending on the time of day. With the same authenticity and boldness that make up each space, this room brings together a piano, various encyclopedias, African sculptures, a cactus garden and a stone tub and sinks, generating a unique atmosphere of comfort and freedom. The engineered flooring plays well with the elegance of the furniture and introduces the wood texture that predominates throughout the exterior. A spiral staircase leads down to the ground floor, directly to the living room, dining room and bar area; The spaces are open to the garden through a system of folding gates and a terrace that, in response to the dynamics of the inhabitants, allow for the enlargement or delimitation of the living spaces. The richness of the materials is clearly visible in the spaciousness of this space: the floor is made of Zimbabwe Black granite, the bar top is made of brushed Magma Gold, and finally, at the client's explicit request, the old brick used to build the main wall and the railway sleepers used in the bar front, shelves and staircase. Similarly, a painting by Luis Selem, another grand piano and elements that respond to the clients' personality such as airplane propellers or a table football, make up a particular universe that makes them work and transmit the specific personality of the family.
